A friend of mine likes to raise free range chickens for their eggs. She used to have some awhile back but then there was a fox and a neighbors dog that kept on getting them. The neighbors moved and she hasn't seen the fox for awhile so she figured she get some more chicks to try it again. We went and visited them when they were 4 days old. It was the day before Easter and they sure were cute to see. These images just doesn't do them justice.
As soon as someone would sit down they would run to get into the protection of the legs.
At this point she had all 6 chicks there. So we could see them she went ahead and stood up.
They scattered about and I was able to get a few individual shots.
The white one was so cute because it kept on following my husband around. I joked about it being the only young chick he'd probably ever have him follow around.
Then they started to migrate around to each other.
I thought it was cute the way they wanted to sleep on top of each other.
The multicolored one took to me. And I had a fun time holding it. They were so small.
I thought I had finally gotten a picture of all of them together but then realize I was missing one.
My friend sat down again and they all started to head back to her. This was going to be the best I could get of them all together.
Now I can hardly wait until we can start having free range eggs again. They sure are good.

Fairy Gardens
I was able to go visit my mom with my son. I timed it so my visit would overlap with my brother and his family who live in another state and I don't get to see very often. I also have another brother that lives in the area where my mom is.
One of the things my mom likes to do is make things interesting for her grandchildren when they visit. This time one of the activities she had planned was to make fairy gardens. For a long time she would collect miniature garden type objects to put in these gardens. Then she bought three plastic boxes and some plants that do not grow to be very big.
The young kids enjoyed it for a short while, but her older kids got into it more. We had a fun time doing this and I want to share some of the pictures.
These were when they were just starting out.
Things got moved around as more materials were added. My one niece wanted to have rocks in hers (- I wonder where she gets that from? ) so the big plant lost out to the rocks.
Here's two of them that got finished.
And here's how they look in the garden at their home.
For a summer activity it was a fun thing to do. My mom's next project is she made some stepping stones and she wants us to paint pictures on them.

Puppy time - checking out the swimmers
My son had his birthday and wanted a sleep over. As a special treat we decided to go ahead and let them swim in the pool also. We have a heater but its very expensive to heat so we don't do that very often.

Puppy pool help
We have a backyard pool and in the winter we try to keep it covered. Sometimes water accumulates on the cover and we have to drain it off. It was a pretty day and so my husband decided it would be a good time to do it. The puppies were fascinated by the water coming out of the hose and it was hilarious to watch them try to figure it out. I just had to get some images of it.
After awhile they came and wanted attention. Just look at those faces.
Once my husband sat down they decided to try it on him since they thought it was time to get up into our laps, but we wouldn't let them since they were so sopping wet.

Puppy Times - 1st snow
We had some wintery weather recently
Puppies being puppies had to be taken out into it. Of course it was all new and exciting for them to be out in it. They didn't know what to make of it but thought it was a game where they were suppose to catch the stuff falling down from the sky. They felt that way until they jumped a couple of times and fell flat onto their bellies. Then they decided it was just cold and wanted in.
The next day I tried to get some pictures of the bayou with the ice on the trees but didn't get much.

New Year's eve bonfire
We went to a bonfire to bring in the new year. The neighbors collect the old Christmas trees and burn them. I was surprised that they were able to get as many as they did. They sure were pretty to watch burn.
When a new tree was added it would go up in a fireball.
Then it would just shoot sparks off all over the place.
This was my favorite one. It looked like the ghost of Christmas pass was exscaping.
Most of the time the fire was pretty tame.
They added this one tree and we were surpised to see blue flames come from it. It must have been sprayed with a flame retardant. It didn't do much to keep it from burning but it sure did make the fire look pretty after that.
When the flames would get low like this then they would add another tree.
This one was interesting too.
The kids seem to like it, and it was nice to have something like this on that cold night.
