Awesome Alpine Adventure: Day 3 - Old Town Innsbruck

 OLD TOWN - INNSBRUCK:
Favorite photo for this post:
St Anne's Column - Innsbruck
This is St Anne's Column  and I'm always partial to things with that name.  Also I liked the way it showed the Old Town and the city tower in the background.  Plus you can see how overcast it was that day.

Day 3 in the morning rain.  We were doing a tour of the city.  We first stopped at Wilten Basilica and then went up to Bergisel Ski Jump area.  Now we to see the Old Town.
The bus stopped and let us out to walk in the old town section since buses and cars were not allowed in parts of it.
Here you can see how narrow the streets are and the reason we had to walk.  The green topped building in the back ground is the City Tower.
Another view of the narrow streets.

What I like to see was these ornate signs on the buildings.
 A different angle of them.

We stopped at this one place and engraved on the wall were all the famous people who had stayed there at the hotel through the years.  I didn't recognize most of them but you could tell this was a very posh place to be able to stay there.  I was surprised they even had John Glenn's name up there too.
One of the main tourist attractions is the  Gold Roof.  It seems like the whole old town used that as the main reference point to getting to places.
 Here's another view of it.
Gold Top Roof  - Innsbruck
And a closer view of it.  The gold roof  was made by Niklas Turing. It was to commemorate Emperor Maximilian's wedding to Maria Bianca Storza of Milan in 1494.  Its considered late -Gothic style of architecture.   The main thing was it was a balcony that overlooked the main square.
Near by to it is the City tower and the old city hall .

Across from the City Tower and Close to the Gold Roof is this building - Helbling House.

And here you get a view of the city square which was the main hub of the city.
After seeing the city square we went and saw St James Cathederal

Then we walked and saw the Tyrolean State Theatre.

Tryolean State Theatre
Which was close to the Imperial Palace.
Here's the frontal view of it.  The Imperial Palace is now a museum that I wanted to see but didn't have enough time to do.

Attached to the Palace was this church which is also now the entrancement to the Museum.
Across from the Palace was this fountain of Leopold.

Tyrolean State Museum Ferdinandeum
Across from the Herz-Fried Str, which is where the town square is,  is  Maria -Thersien Strasse which  has this  St. Anne Column in it.  It is in front of the current city hall.

Here's a close up of the statue.
A closer view of the art work near the base.

And at the base the pigeons were hanging out trying to put up with the miserable weather we were having.
.
This was just the end of the morning of Day 3. There is still more for the day.
